Welcome to the online home of Open Government at the Department of Defense.
In January 2009, President’s Obama’s first executive action was to sign the Memorandum on Transparency and Open Government, which sought to bridge the gap between the American people and their government. In December 2009, the Administration issued an Open Government Directive, providing specific direction to agencies — including the Department of Defense — on becoming more open, participatory and collaborative.
We launched this website in February 2010, and will continue to update it with the latest developments in Open Government at DoD.
We invite you to:
- explore the resources here– including datasets for Data.gov and FOIA information
- read and comment on the first version of our Open Government Plan
- read the ideas generated in our discussion on transparency
